2010 NBA Finals:

Greetings from Northern California where in the USA, it's all about the NBA Finals featuring two of the most respected franchises (not just in Basketball) in the history of sports! Indeed the World Cup is important being that it only occurs once every four years, but Celtics/Lakers? This is what Prime Time Basketball is all about.

After a season of injuries, descension, mid-season trades etc... it seemed as if the Celtics would be on a downward spiral for the remainder of the season, that is until key players started to get healthy and then the boys from beantown made a 180° of a run in order to make the playoffs. One of the biggest keys was the off-season pickup of former Portland Trailblazer/Detroit Piston Rasheed Wallace. Along with that, the Celts made a mid-season trade for 3-time Slam Dunk Champion/former NY Knicks reserve guard Nate Robinson.

Both guys are known for playing with huge chips on their shoulders and most may think that such behavior can be detrimental to your team (think T.O. in Frisco or in Philly). But with the way the season was going for Coach Rivers & his team, it was anything but. A welcome addition might I add. Hence the reason why the Celtics are representing the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals. It wasn't until Rasheed Wallace started to get hot off the bench by lighting things up from the outside, that (along with the play of leader Paul Pierce) is what clearly showed me that the Celtics were still head & shoulders above every team in the Eastern Conference.

Cleveland didn't stand a chance once the starters & bench started to click. Sure the Celts have the big three in Ray Allen, Kev Garnett & Pierce, but let's not forget the stifling defense & athleticism of Tony Allen (no relation to Ray), the hustle of "Big Baby" Davis, the aforementioned Nate Robinson (swagger & all) and last but not least, Boston's best player & leader of the future: Rajon "Poker Face" Rondo. Yes, I gave him that name just now, because whatever Rondo does on the court (good or bad), he keeps the same demeanor the whole time, reminiscent of the Spurs' Tim Duncan. If Tim is the "Big Fundamental", then it's easy to dub Rondo as the "Young Fundamental"! As a fan, I predicted the Lakers to beat Boston in seven, but as a pupil / high school recruiter & self-made analyst of the game, Boston can very well win it in 7!

The Playoffs are about match-ups and the Lakers & Celtics match-up remains incredible, intriguing & electric dating back to the Havilcek/Elgin Baylor, Chamberlain/Russel, Bird vs Magic days. It gets no better than this. This is why we watch. The reason why I watch is simply because music and sports are my passion. The Knicks & Lakers are my two favorite teams (in College Basketball... my favorite sport of all, Go Tar Heels!) and this run is reminiscent of the World Cup action; as far as never knowing what's going to happen next! Both atmospheres are unlike anything I've ever witnessed in my life! If anyone knows Phife Dawg, you must know how the world of sports has always been and still is very therapeutic for me. When things aren't working out in the world of music, this is what I run to. Wifeys mad at me, this is what I run to. Knicks looking bad... watch ESPN classic, Tarheels vs. Duke! This is my life, my 1st love, my joy, my everything. This is my life during and after A Tribe Called Quest and I'm looking forward to coaching the youth more and more. I love recruiting for South Kent prep School in Connecticut, whether we get a certain player or not, the development of a player keeps me motivated to motivate them, the same way my group mates and I motivate most to enjoy our music, shake a tail feather and then some!

Then there is family life, something that I cherish with all that I have within my soul; which never hurts when your wife is the football Queen of the household, while I take pleasure in being the Basketball King. In closing I must say, I met my wife while watching the 1998 NBA Draft. We were married the day of the 2005 NFL draft. Most may ask: "Was that planned?" No it was not. But all I know is God has yet to make a mistake. Unless the Celtics win the Championship! LOL! GO LAKE SHOW! KNICKS/YANKEES & JETS fans such as my self, hate the Pats, Red Sox & Celtics, but we HATE them with THE BIGGEST form of respect (minus the RED SOX) LOL!

Until next time. Peace & love,
Phifey (aka The Black BRENT MUSBERGER!)
