Hello Ladies and gentlemen. My name is Charles Stewart. I'm better know as the "Verbal Herman Munster" Chali 2na from Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli fame. Really I'm just a regular guy with an extraordinary job. Today I'm here to discuss touring during the summer and performing at summer festivals in Europe and abroad.
First and foremost, I feel blessed to be in this position. In this day and age, to be a working musician is a real phenomenon. Those of us who have success at radio with hit songs, usually have the luxury of being in demand, therefore performance opportunities are plentiful. Those of us who haven't had radio success, have to rely on having a great show that the audience leaves talking about to their friends, spreading the word until the next time you perform in their area. The show is where they discover the artist's music and a special connection is developed. This is the connection that keeps them coming back for more.
Club, college, and corporate shows all have their own vibe, especially in America, but none of them can compare to the vibes at European Summer Festivals, in my opinion. As a general rule, fans of music from the UK and Europe are more intense, passionate, and overall more dedicated than those in the States. Why this is, I'm not exactly sure, but it's apparent the minute you witness a summer festival crowd.
The energy and excitement from the audiences is only matched by the number of people in attendance. Glastonbury festival estimated 180,000 people attended this years event, and these numbers are shared with other major festivals such as Reading festival, Electric picnic, etc. With all these people in attendance, and the passion in which they share for the music, you can imagine the energy. Simply amazing!!
